LIGNA- End-of-Show Report
„performed well“

Everything matched pretty well at the LIGNA 2013 (06.05. - 10.05.) in Hannover: the number of exhibitors, high-caliber trade visitors, an abundance of innovations and outstanding international turnout on the part of exhibitors and visitors alike.
More than 90,000 professional visitors from 100 countries attended the LIGNA this year.

The Division Wood of the TKM group with IKS Klingelnberg, TKM Austria and TTT presented their highlights on 100 square meters. The new and welcoming design of their exhibition stand, focused on their industrial segments, was really convincing.

Jörg Wengenroth, responsible for the Division Wood of the TKM group looks back on a positive result. “Our exhibition stand was well visited throughout the whole event. Nearly all major customers came by, so not only the quantity, which was significantly higher than the last times, but also the quality of visitors was in a very satisfactory manner.” 

We were able to gather a lot of important information regarding this distribution channel from many conversations with international company representatives (Brazil, France, Spain, New Zealand, Turkey, Russia, Romania,…).  
New customer contacts were successfully established and also orders were closed directly on site, says Wengenroth.

“It should be noted,  that especially for our division the Exhibition become more and more a European customer event with its focus on the sawmill industry.”  

It was also conspicuous, so Wengenroth, that visitors from overseas and also from earlier strongly represented countries, like Italy or Turkey, were missing.

Exhibitors and visitors celebrate the "Runnability Awards" at Tissue World 2013 in Barcelona / GOLD (11 shows) for IKS Klingelnberg

Tissue World 2013 has hosted the Runnability Awards to publically thank the exhibitors that have supported the show over the years.

This year Tissue World is celebrating its 20th anniversary and to mark this special occasion, the organisers created the gold, silver and bronze Runnability awards.

Taking runnability to new heights, the organisers want to thank the eight Gold Medal companies below that have had been exhibiting at Tissue World since the very beginning in Nice in 1993 right up until Barcelona 2013. That’s 20 years of runnability and a world record.more

More managerial responsibility as a recipe for success
Interview with Thomas Meyer (CEO), VDMA 13.03.2013

Mr Meyer, your company has been operating independently in the market for more than twenty years. During that time, sales have grown seven fold. How do you explain this dramatic growth?

Meyer: We are now the number one in the machine knife segment in Europe – far ahead of approximately
150 competitors. One reason for this success is our development from a simple knife supplier to a supplier of systems. Let me give an example: In the beginning, we manufactured, among other things, round machine knives which are
used to cut paper rolls. We then gradually started supplying the customer with additional parts which he also needs, for instance, sharpening wheels. While we originally bought these sharpening wheels from other suppliers, we now manufacture them ourselves. For us, the question is always which other things may be useful for the customer,
and not what our machines can currently manufacture in the best possible way. So, we are not primarily product-oriented, but rather market-oriented. This has brought about this growth.
Another component of our recipe for success is that we are a supplier both to OEMs, i.e. the machine manufacturers, and the end customers, the printing houses, for example. more

Tissue World 2013 / Runnability Prize for IKS Klingelnberg

In recognition that IKS Klingelnberg has been exibiting at Tissue World since the very beginning in Nice in 1993, IKS Klingelnberg will be awarded the “Runnability Prize” during this year`s Tissue World 2013 in Barcelona. The ceremony will take place on Tuesday, 19 March from 17:30 to 19:00 in Hall 1 of the Fira Barcelona during the Happy Hour Reception which will be attended by all exhibitors, conference participants and visitors of the Tissue World 2013. Thomas Huhn (Member of Executive Board) will represent the company and he will accept the honors.

Family Companies Ensure Continuity

On December 12, 2012, the Klingelnberg family handed over ownership of the TKM Group to Thomas Meyer, who has been a 30% minority owner and the Managing Partner for the last 20 years.
The sales contract, signed December 12th, transfers the majority of shares to the Meyer family starting at the end of 2012 with the entire acquisition completed by the year 2023.
The Klingelnberg family will continue their advisory role over the next 10 years to ensure the future continuity and growth of the TKM Group.
More than a dozen companies operate in eleven countries in Europe, Asia and North America under the umbrella of the TKM Group, of which IKS Klingelnberg GmbH Remscheid also belongs. The TKM Group, a worldwide global player with approximately 1000 employees, produces industrial knives and machine elements for the paper, wood, metal, plastics, rubber and recycling industry.

Top and bottom trimmer knives work like a scissor. Today’s high speed machines produce up to 30,000 and more products in one hour. This requires trimmer knives with tight tolerances such like flatness, straightness as well as special knife geometries. Every time the machine is stopped to change and set-up knives, costs significantly increase.

Result of a strategic supplier survey

In order to ensure sustainable quality of products delivered to ThyssenKrupp and to further enhance it, the company performs regular strategic supplier assessments on the basis of criteria regarding purchasing, quality, logistics, and technology which have been specified uniformly throughout the entire group. An assessment team summarizes the individual results to obtain an overall result per supplier.
In the recent assessment, the IKS KLINGELNBERG GmbH Company, which has been providing ThyssenKrupp Steel-Service-Center with machine knives for decades, came out on top as a Preferred Supplier (A supplier).

Countdown drupa 2012 …. still 100 days to go

The drupa is the worldwide the most important fair of the print media industry. Since 1951 the exhibition is taking place in Düsseldorf in a four years rhythm.
